What do you owe yourself?

I asked the members in my group this question the other day. They looked puzzled as if I was speaking Korean. I think it’s a question we rarely ask ourselves. We usually focus on what we owe others. When’s the last time you asked yourself what you owe you? Or have you ever asked yourself that? Does that even make sense, this idea of owing yourself something?

Answer it. Now. What do you owe yourself? Time? Patience? Space? A double bacon cheeseburger? A better relationship? A new body? Closure? Forgiveness? A new chapter? A break?

Here’s the next question. Why? Why do you owe yourself this? As you answer this, you may feel uncomfortable and awkward. This is because you’re not used to sticking up for yourself. The truth is you owe yourself a lot. You are long over due. For most of your life, you have been investing in others. You’ve been on production mode, sacrificing self for performance. Your actions have been for other people. Your friends, family, husband, kids. Or you’re so used to others giving you what you need, you never learned how to give yourself what you need. Either way, you’ve been living a false life, one driven by fear. At the root, it’s fear. So maybe the question isn’t What do you owe yourself?

Maybe it’s Why are you afraid to give yourself what you deserve?

Chew on that.

As I remind you that it’s payback time.

Time to fuck your fear.

Time to collect.

Keep leaning forward,
