5 must answer questions for 2016!

In a few weeks it will be a brand new year. A brand new canvas. A brand new chapter. Brand new opportunities. But you have to create them. Just crossing fingers don’t work. Trust me. I’ve tried. The first thing you need to change is your mindset. My wish for you is to go into the new year mentally like a muzzled Grayhound out of the gates. In order to do that, here are five questions you must ask yourself so that this year isn’t just another year but the year that changed everything.

1. What do you want?

This sounds obvious but many do not know. They know they want change. They know they are unhappy or dissatisfied with their life. But they don’t really know what they want. So it’s time to not only ask yourself this question but actually answer it. If you don’t know what you want, your blade will be dull as you carve your path through the wild. Sharpen your blade by asking yourself what you really want.

If you don’t know where to start, break down the major areas of your life.

Career

Relationships

Friends

Family

Health / Fitness

Then narrow in. What do you want in your career? What do you want in relationships? Love and money isn’t enough. Yes we all want that. You need to be more specific. One way to do that is to ask yourself why.

2. Why do you want this?

Why do you want what you want? And make sure you tie it to your story. That will give your want meaning and weight you can use for leverage when you are lacking motivation.

For example, I want more sleep. Why do I want more sleep? Well, besides the obvious — crippling insomnia for two years, I believe finding the answer to more sleep will give me the answer to why insomnia was prescribed in my life. It’s not just about getting more sleep. It’s about connecting dots in your story and finding meaning. I believe my journey to getting more sleep will be what I was meant to change about myself. Maybe it’s exploring meditation, breathing, and learning to calm the fuck down. This then, is what will prepare me for greater things.

Look pass the surface. Why do you want what you want? How does it make your story make more sense and create more meaning? Meaning is always where you’ll find traction.

3. What’s holding you back?

As important as it is to know what you want, you also have to know what’s holding you back. You can’t fly if you’re chained to something. For many, it’s not believing they can actually obtain what they want. Lack of belief in self. If you believe you can’t do something, even if you have the ability to, you won’t do it. So how to do you get to believing you can? You set yourself up for experiences that slowly shifts your belief system. You do this in small steps. Practice. And lots of conversations in the quiet moments when self doubt enters. And of course, by implementing a structure. More on that in a sec. Put a book mark here and let’s talk about -

4. What’s at stake?

Think about your story, how far you’ve come, all the events leading up to where you are now, and ask yourself what’s at stake if you don’t change?

At the end of the day, it’s not even about you. It’s about us, the world, experiencing your truly unique gifts. So simply put, what’s at stake is your potential and the dent you are supposed to make in the universe.

See yourself as a vessel that God, the universe, aliens, whatever you believe is greater than yourself is using to affect many. Once you take yourself out of the picture, your ego, fears, self doubt will fade causing you to jump forward into something new. You 2.0.

5. What’s your structure / program?

Without structure, a program, or a plan, change is nearly impossible. Rome wasn’t built in a day and your goals won’t happen over night. But a year is a long time and a lot can happen. This is where the work comes in. You don’t have to do it alone. Actually, it’s more effective to do it with a community.

We all know once the new year hits, there is a small window of motivation before you snap back into old patterns and beliefs and this year will just be another year.

Here’s how I can help. We just created tribes for you to join with others who have similar goals so that you guys can support each other and make each other accountable. Structure + push through = a shift. These tribes will also be lead by a Catalyst. It’s a four month program to jump start your new year.
